news

Not my news, I have none. I'm just waiting for a meeting to start, looking for my shoes, making coffee. That's what I'm doing (waiting, looking, making) while an unhinged autocratic regime has taken over my country and started doing things that I never thought possible.

I'm not a naive American. I have no real expectations of politicians, and I don't believe the arc of the universe bends towards justice because I don't believe in arcs at all. However, I did think that public-facing decorum would remain in place for a few more decades. I fully believed that we would continue on with mass incarceration at home and immiseration abroad while most Americans played nice and accepted the separation of powers and the freedom of the press and a few other things that seemed to compose the core of our American freedoms. But lo and fucking behold, I just read the news.

It's like we've collectively crossed over into a fictional realm where power is so transparently evil that it hangs giant banners of itself on public buildings. Where the face of the transparent evil is scowling down at the people like some poorly rendered set piece from a low-budget dystopian teen drama.

I don't think there is much value to be added to the world by using a technical platform to complain about the collapse of democracy, but honestly, what else am I supposed to do?
