My job is basically this: Ask questions, listen, ask more questions, make a plan.

My team had a meeting today with another team within our organization. This other team has a lot of institutional and political power. Because of this power, this team 100% expected that my team would do exactly what they asked us to do immediately. What they asked us to do made no sense. It was as close to gibberish as I've heard in a while.

But before we got to their request, this team just flogged us with high-speed sexist nonsense. "Ladies, ladies, you should listen to J. because he's young and he knows what's up. He can help be better." [Exact quote] J. said "I'm just trying to help you do your job." J. said "You must have a process for handling this." J. said "We should have a meeting every week until you are able to meet this ask. It's not unreasonable."

At the 30 minute mark, a woman from their team joined the call, and it took her about 4 seconds to realize that what J. and Co. were asking for wasn't something that could be done within our organization. She thanked us for our time and we thanked her for her time and J. said "So, you'll get us that tomorrow?"
